If you are one of the 2 million people in the UK who have a food intolerance or allergy you will know how difficult it can be sometimes to establish which foods are safe for you to eat when dining out. I know this first hand because one of my close family members is severely allergic to all fish and seafood (and carries an EpiPen) and quite often when we eat out we are told dishes are OK to eat, and have not been cross-contaminated, but find the information provided is wrong which leads to some nasty consequences. Increasingly, some businesses even say they cannot serve anyone with severe allergies which is incredibly frustrating!
I have recently discovered 'And it Has' which is a new menu app with an allergy and ingredient filter that helps customers tailor their food preferences, making it easier for them to safely choose what to order when they go out or have a take-away. It’s a free app for customers although food businesses pay a small monthly amount to upload their menu information onto the platform, along with their company logos, food pictures etc. It enables customers or serving staff to access detailed allergen / ingredient information when ordering and even search for local establishments that use this platform. Businesses can also have the system set up to print orders directly to the kitchen or print allergen advice labels that can be placed onto takeaway foods.
Not only is this a good idea to help allergy sufferers, it also enables food businesses to comply easily with the Food Information Regulations which, as we all know, are going up a gear in October 2021 when what's known as Natasha’s Law comes into effect.
